Eungella (young-gella) National Park and Finch Hatten Gorge

Finch Hatten Gorge

We camped two nights in this area. I could have stayed here much longer. We both loved it. Duck Billed Platapus' living in the creek down the road, orange (both Navel and Mandarine) trees everywhere (all you can eat-no charge) and a really nice veiw from our campsite.

Hinchinbrook Island

We took a day to explore this island that was recommended by the people we exchanged houses with. Bronwynn said she thought it was the most beautiful island she had ever been on and I tend to agree.
I'm getting the feeling Steph didn't want me to take one of these pictures.

Groper Fish

When we got off the boat the captain said it was time to feed the fish and suggested we come over to watch. Normally that wouldn't be very interesting but this guy (the fish that is) was only "slightly"smaller than a Volkswagen Beetle. (yes the car). He gave him about 10 salmon before he moved on.

Hinchinbrook Island

We towed a smaller boat behind us and after getting close to the island we dropped anchor and took the small boat up a river further inland, before hopping off for a hike. (these rocks I'm standing beside looked like leftovers from Easter Island)

Port Douglas

For a change of pace we browsed around this small town for an afternoon. (2 hrs north of Cairns)

Hazards of bushwalking

There was plenty of new and interesting things to discover but you always had to be aware of your surroundings. The day before reading this sign (Ouch!) we had come across a girl who was soaking her hand in a creek and said she was in a lot of pain. She told us she was picking some berries that looked like raspberries then began to feel intense pain in her hand. She was with a group of friends so we assumed she they would get the necessary help. After reading this sign we realized she had come in contact with a Stinging Tree.
We came across a snake from time to time as well.

Sea Eagle

Spider Web, about 6 feet across. (not sure if he was poisonous or not) (he's sitting in the middle of the web)

Seeds from the forest floor

Fan Palms

These plants were about 75-100 feet above the forest floor and were between 10-15 feet in diameter. They made it quite dark on the ground. I thought it made an interesting photograph.

Snorkeling (east of Cairns)

On July 10th we took a boat out to the Great Barrier Reef (1 1/2 hrs one way) to do some snorkeling. The underwater shots were taken with a disposable camera. The colors were a little brighter than they look in the pictures.

That is my finger on the right side of the photo.

One of the guides went to the ocean floor and brought up a sea cucumber.
